“Just-In-Time Power”Tony Rammuno PE, Great River Energy

Ramunno has over 20 years of electric utility experience divided evenly between power generation, and most recently, power delivery (transmission) at Great River Energy as the Director of the Engineering & Project Management Group responsible for engineering, project management, and transmission assets.

Electrical energy does not magically appear for use by an industrial facility, there is not an unlimited supply, and it cannot be stored…the warehouse is always empty! Simply put, electrical energy must be generated as-used. It’s just-in-time demand. Convenience of electricity is expensive, very expensive as generation and transmission infrastructure must be built to serve electrical load and demand. Further, the cost is made-up of both time and money as it takes years to plan, permit, and build electric supply infrastructure.  What can manufacturers and industrial facility owners do?  More than one might think!

  • Is there a deep enough understanding of the energy consequences of interconnecting and sequencing our industrial/facility processes? Where and how is energy utilized?
  • Can changes be made in equipment selection, process timing, sequencing, time of day or time of year use that would result in reduced energy consumption or potential reduced supply side costs?
